We would be delighted if you could join us on 11th December at 16.00 for a panel event hosted by Coadec and techUK on what new European data protection rules will mean for digital startups.

Trust and confidence in the use of data is fundamental to the success of all data driven businesses. Startups benefit from data protection rules that provide consumers with the confidence to embrace new digital technologies - yet they are also disproportionately impacted by rules that are excessively onerous on business.

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is likely to be agreed in Brussels next year and will have a significant impact on how digital businesses can collect, retain, process and use data. The UK Government's own (slightly out of date) impact assessment estimates that the new regulation may cost UK SMEs up to £290 million.

Join us to discuss what the GDPR will mean for you, including new research from data protection law firm Bird & Bird. We will also be looking at how startups can influence lawmakers before the final policy is agreed.

Speakers include:

  • Government minister (tbc)
  • Dr David Erdos (Lecturer in Law and the Open Society Fellow in Law, University of Cambridge)
  • Antony Walker (Deputy CEO, techUK)
  • Guy Levin (Executive Director, Coadec)
  • Ruth Boardman (Partner, Bird & Bird)
