Dr Afzal Chaudhry is a Consultant Nephrologist, the Chief Clinical Information Officer and an Associate Lecturer at Cambridge University Hospitals. He is also the lead for the Informatics theme at the Cambridge Biomedical Research Centre.

Dr Chaudhry trained at St George's London and went onto complete his renal training at Hammersmith Hospital / Imperial College in London including a PhD on autoimmune renal disease. He was appointed as a Consultant Nephrologist in Cambridge in 2003 and clinically works predominantly in the fields of renal transplantation and autoimmunevasculitis.

Nationally Dr Chaudhry has worked extensively with the UK Renal Registry to develop and refine analytical and datavisualisation strategies include authoring a novel online data portal providing patients, clinicians, commissioners and others with a "self-service" reporting tool for data from all UK dialysis centres. He now chairs the UK Renal Data Collaboration meetings - aprogram to harmonise the various clinical datastreams in the support of patients, their care and their clinicians by bringing together the informatics arms of the UK and Scottish Renal Registries, the Northern Ireland Nephrology Forum, the Welsh Renal Clinical Network, the British Association of Paediatric Nephrologists, PatientView, the Registry for Rare Renal Diseases and NHS Blood and Transplant.

Dr Chaudhry has over 50 published peer-reviewed papers including transplantation related informatics and has contributed as author or editor to a number of texts.
