Dr Alex Houen is a University Associate Professor in the Faculty of English at the University of Cambridge. His research interests include: Twentieth-century literature; contemporary fiction and poetry (particularly sequences); literature and political violence; avant-gardes; post-structuralism; performativity; affects; sacrifice.

After completing his BA (Hons) and a two-year MPhil at the University of Sydney, he came to Cambridge to do a PhD, which he finished in 1999. After that he taught Modern Anglophone Literature and American Studies at the University of Sheffield until 2009, when he took up his current post in the Faculty of English.
