Founder and CEO, &Share

Alex Whitcroft is a multi-disciplinary designer focused on holistic sustainability, in particular community building and closed loop design.

He is the founder of &Share, a resource sharing web platform for enterprises, as well as being a certified Passivhaus Designer and running the small cooperative architectural studio AWB, working on affordable, closed-loop housing.

He studied architecture at Cardiff University – where he received a First and the Ty Alwyn Lloyd Scholarship at Bachelors and a Distinction and the Wyn Thomas Prize at Masters – writing his dissertation on closed loop manufacturing and steady state economics.

After which he spent two years living at D.R. Ecovillage, one of the US’s leading intentional communities, working with their land trust, designing a Living Building Challenge and LEED Platinum certified, strawbale community centre.

Now back in the UK he also sits on the Living Building Challenge UK Collaborative committee and is an occasional critic at Oxford Brookes University, and was involved writing the Imagine Cardiff Concept Report, a masterplan for Cardiff Bay.
