Gunel has joined CSaP for 2 months as a part-time intern.

She is in the final stages of her PhD in Genetics at the University of Cambridge. Under the supervision of Dr Cahir O'Kane she investigates novel autophagy genes that can protect against polyglutamine neurodegenration in Drosophila. Gunel is particularly interested to understand how academic experts can contribute to resolving high-priority public policy issues. She has previously taken part in a project related to improving food security in Africa organised by Cambridge Humanitarian Center.

Gunel holds a BA in Pharmacy from Azerbaijan Medical University and MSc in Medical Genetics from the University of Glasgow.
