Jonny Hazell leads the Royal Society's work on genetic technologies. This includes a public dialogue in the UK exploring attitudes towards plant, animal, human and microorganism applications for genetic technologies, and work with other national scientific academies on the protocols that inform genetic technologies research.

Jonny joined the Royal Society in 2017 from the Green Alliance thinktank where he remains an associate and was the UK resource policy lead with responsibility for the Circular Economy Task Force. He has an academic background in psychology and environmental policy, having an MSc in nature, society and environmental policy and a BA in experimental psychology, both from the University of Oxford.
