Senior College Lecturer in Economics, Christ's College Cambridge

Dr Julia Shvets is a Senior College Lecturer, and Director of Studies, in Economics at Christ's College Cambridge. She investigates systematic patterns in individuals' behaviour in organizations and how they respond to changes in organizational rules, with the goal to understand why some organization and communities work better than others. Examples of these studies include empirical investigations into politicians' influences over judicial decisions, and into legislators' attempts to skew government spending towards their constituencies. This work uses 'natural experiments' - unexpected shifts in policy - to disentangle the many influences that shape people's actions in the real world.

Dr Shvets received her PhD from the London School of Economics and Political Science. Before joining Christ's College she was a research fellow at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge. She has also worked as an economic consultant and in a team of policy advisors to the Russian government.
