Director of the Intellectual Forum, Jesus College, Cambridge

Dr Julian Huppert is Founding Director of the Intellectual Forum at Jesus College, Cambridge, an interdisciplinary centre focused on bringing people to think and talk about some of the key issues of our time. After an academic career in Cambridge in genomics and biophysics, he served as the Member of Parliament for Cambridge 2010-15, and was particularly noted for his work on technology policy, civil liberties, international development, and the environment.

He was Deputy Chair of the NHS Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Clinical Commissioning Group until it was abolished, and is Chair of the System Ethics Committee for Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Integrated Care System. He was Chair of the Panel of Independent Reviewers for DeepMind Health, pioneering a new approach to oversight and governance in technology companies, and advises a range of Edtech companies. He is a member of the Home Office's Biometrics and Forensics Ethics Group, advising on issues such as facial recognition and big data.

He is also a Visiting Professor at King’s College London, and an Associate Fellow of the Leverhulme Centre for the Future of Intelligence. He is a Director of the Joseph Rowntree Reform Trust Ltd.
