Economic Adviser and Head of DG Private Office, Economics and Markets, Department for Business, Innovation, and Skills

Madeleine Plater joined the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) in January 2016 as Economic Adviser and Head of Private Office for Sam Beckett, Director General for Economics and Markets and Deputy Head of the Government Economics Service. In this role she is responsible for:

  • Supporting the Director General in shaping the strategic direction of the Economics and Markets Group, ensuring priority work areas are being delivered; and
  • Providing the Director General with analytical and economic advice, in support of her role as Chief Economist and Deputy Head of the Government Economic Service.

Madeleine has six years’ experience in BIS and the Department of Health in roles spanning financial planning, strategy, policy, and micro and macro-economics. Madeleine has a MSc in Economics from Birkbeck, University of London.
