Mohammed Hussain is the Head of Multilateral Engagement and International Nuclear Safety at the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS). He is responsible for the UK’s adherence to its international commitments and for enhancing the UK’s global influence on civil nuclear matters.

Mohammed leads the Department’s team responsible for:

  • International engagement through multilateral frameworks for nuclear safety, nuclear energy and non-energy applications;
  • Enhancing collaboration with the wider UK civil nuclear ecosystem, including industry, to optimise UK engagement and influencing internationally; and
  • Developing, representing, and delivering on the UK’s civil nuclear safety interests and positions at the UN, EU, OECD, EBRD and G7.

Prior to joining the civil service, Mohammed worked for Royal Dutch Shell, based in London and The Hague (Netherlands), where he held roles in strategy, business intelligence and project management. Mohammed is an alumnus of the London School of Economics where he read International Politics.
