A.G. Leventis Professor of Greek Culture Emeritus, Faculty of Classics, University of Cambridge

Professor Paul Cartledge is A.G. Leventis Professor of Greek Culture Emeritus in the Faculty of Classics at the University of Cambridge, and a Senior Research Fellow at Clare College, Cambridge. His main areas of interest are Ancient Greek History and Culture, in particular that of Athens and Sparta. His most recent books are Ancient Greece: A Very Short Introduction (OUP 2011) and After Thermopylae: The Oath of Plataea and the End of the Graeco-Persian Wars (Oxford University Press 2013).

He did both his undergraduate degree and DPhil at Oxford, and then held positions at the New University of Ulster, Trinity College Dublin, and the University of Warwick, before coming to Cambridge in 1979. He was the elected as the first A.G. Leventis Professor of Greek Culture, a post he held until September 2014.
