Assistant Director, Cities and Local Growth Unit (London & East), Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BIS)

Since 2011, Peter Northover has been Assistant Director for London and the East at the Cities and Local Growth Unit, a partnership between BIS and the Department for Communities and Local Government. The Unit has specific responsibility for local economic growth policy, working though approaches such as Growth Deals, City Deals, the Northern Powerhouse and Midlands Engine. Peter also leads for the Department on the Greater Cambridge Greater Peterborough and Hertfordshire LEP areas,

Previously, Peter was Head of the Regional Parliamentary and Private Office at the Government Office for the East of England (2008-10) and Deputy Head of the Regional Governance Team, Regional Co-ordination Unit in the Department for Communities and Local Government (2008). Earlier in his career he worked at Defra as Relationship Manager to the Carbon Trust, Climate and Energy, and Animal Health and Welfare Strategy Implementation Lead in the Strategy and Delivery Division.

Peter holds an MA in Critical Theory and a first class BSc in Geography from the University of Nottingham.
