Peter Williams stepped down as director of the Centre for Housing and Planning Research in January 2014 and is a Departmental Fellow in Land Economy. CCHPR was established in 1990 in order to undertake policy-oriented research on all issues affecting housing and land use and has an international reputation as a leading academic research institution in the fields of housing and planning.

Dr Williams has had a long career in academia, government and industry. He is currently Executive Director of the Intermediary Mortgage Lenders Association and a Board member of the National Housing Federation and Thames Valley Housing Association. He has been Deputy Director General of the Council of Mortgage Lenders, Chairman of the National Housing and Planning Advice Unit and Board Member of the Housing Corporation and One Savings Bank and Professor of Housing at the University of Cardiff. His research interests are in housing finance and housing markets, housing policy and housing history. He has been a Visiting Professor at the Universities of York and Bristol.
