Richard Smith

PhD Research Student at University of Southampton

PhD student, National Oceanography Centre, University of Southampton
NERC-Funded CSaP Policy Intern (September 2016 - December 2016)

After completing a NERC-funded Policy Internship at CSaP in December 2016, Richard returned to the University of Southampton to finish his PhD in the National Oceanography Centre.

Richard's research explores Earth's climate in the geological record, focusing on times when the climate underwent dramatic changes. An understanding of past climate conditions is important for testing models used to predict future climate change. Richard's interest in climate change made him eager to better understand the complex relationship between science and policy.

Richard holds a BA and MSc in Natural Sciences from the University of Cambridge. He is keen to spread his enthusiasm about science to the wider public through his participation in the STEM Ambassador scheme.
