Rob joined the Centre for Technology Management in 1997, based in the Institute for Manufacturing, a Division of the Engineering Department at the University of Cambridge. He conducts research in the area of strategic technology management - particular interests include technology evaluation, the emergence of technology-based industry, the use of visual techniques for strategy, and the development of practical management tools. Rob has a mechanical engineering background, with a PhD in computational mechanics and industrial experience in technical consulting, contract research and software development.

Strategic technology roadmapping has been a key area of ongoing interest, in terms of both research and practice.

    Professional Development Policy Seminar for Engineers

    In December, CSaP and the Engineering Department at the University of Cambridge co-hosted a Professional Development Policy Seminar for early-career engineers. Co-sponsored by the IET, 32 researchers from 7 universities heard from engineering experts and policy professionals on the opportunities and realities of engaging with policy. For Marcus Pelenu, a PhD student at the Centre for Sustainable Development, Department of Engineering, this seminar resulted in a work placement in the Cabinet Office.
