International Relationships Manager, Higher Education Funding Council for England

Dr Cliff Hancock is the International Relationships Manager at the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE). He has worked in the Higher Education sector in the UK for more than 30 years and he has considerable experience in the international HE environment, both through his work with HEFCE and previously with the Open University where, again, he had an international remit.

He is an Associate of the Leadership Foundation for HE and was part of their delegation to Tripoli in March 2012. He has a deep understanding of organisational culture and how ideas from one country can be used (or not) in another. His recent academic work is in this area and his paper on Transitions in HE cultures was published by the Journal 'Academy' of the University of Yunnan in Kunming, China. His experience in the UK HE sector, prior to the Open University, was mainly at Bath Spa University where he held the post of Academic Registrar. There he was part of a small, senior team that gained degree awarding powers which led subsequently to the acquisition of university status and name."
