Directorate General for Health and Consumer
Emanuele Ciriolo joined the European Commission as a behavioural economist in 2007. Since then he
has investigated the possibility of applying behavioural economics in policy making - as a complement
to other traditional approaches. His influence has resulted in several Commission services (Directorate
General (DG) for Health and Consumer Affairs, DG for Internal Market and Services, DG for Energy,
DG for Justice and DG for Competition) to use behavioural insights and evidence in concrete policy
initiatives.
