PhD Candidate, Chemical Physics Group, Department of Chemistry, University of Cambridge
Tanya Hutter is a PhD Candidate in the Chemical Physics Group, Department of Chemistry at the University of Cambridge. Prior to starting her PhD in 2009 Tanya obtained a B.Sc in Chemical Engineering from Ben-Gurion University of the Negev in Israel, followed by an M.Sc in Materials Science and Engineering (summa cum laude) from Tel Aviv University.
The Chemical Physics Group is working on a variety of different sensing technologies, based on optical, mechanical and electrical transduction techniques, for applications in healthcare diagnostics, environmental monitoring and homeland security. In addition, they study non-crystalline materials (e.g. glasses), understanding their physical properties in terms of their atomic structure and defects. The approach is multidisciplinary, covering solid-state chemistry, physics and materials science.
Tanya's research includes microfluidic device fabrication, surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS), optical waveguides and conducting polymers.
