Kwame Akyeampong is the Professor of International Education and Development and Director of the Centre for the Study of Global Development at the Open University's Faculty of Wellbeing Education and Language Studies. Kwame moved to the OU in July 2020 having previously worked at the University of Sussex where he held a Professorship of the same title and was Deputy Director of the University’s Centre of International Education.

In a career spanning over 30 years Professor Akyeampong has held several international education posts at academic institutions across the globe, including Hiroshima University in Japan, Georgia State University in the USA and the University of Ghana. He has also undertaken a two-year secondment working for UNESCO in Paris as a Senior Policy Analyst on the organisation’s Global Education Monitoring Report.

Professor Akyeampong has sat on numerous advisory panels on international education and has recently been selected to join the newly created Global Education Evidence Advisory Panel, convened by the World Bank and the UK Government’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.
