Nicola Hughes is the Opening Doors Project Coordinator for University of Cambridge Museums. The Opening Doors Project aims to increase participation in the University of Cambridge Museums with people of all ages and backgrounds, from volunteering roles with adults and retirees, through to work experience organised with local school children, paid internships for those who wish to begin a career in the Museum sector, and accredited Apprenticeships for young people not attending university.

Nicola holds an MA in Museum Studies from the University of Southampton and a BA in Archaeology from the University of Leicester. Before joining the University of Cambridge Museums group she spent 9 years working as a Volunteer Manager for the Imperial War Museum at Duxford, where she managed a team of over 500 volunteers, including recruiting new volunteers and co-ordinating teams to ensure their skills and experience were utilised effectively. She has also worked in heritage roles with the Foundling Museum in London, and Kettering Borough Council.
