Beatriz is Policy Lead for a new project on climate litigation and economic growth in the UK at the Ministry of Justice. She is also an expert member of the Council of Europe’s Working Group on SLAPPs (Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation). She oversees a team responsible for legislative strategy, implementation and international engagement on SLAPPs reform. Beatriz is also launching a new programme of work on climate litigation and its effects on states and industry.

Previously Beatriz trained as a barrister, working as Johan Steyn Scholar at the International Criminal Court on cases concerning extra-territorial jurisdiction and extraordinary rendition. She focused on international law as a Thouron Fellow at the University of Pennsylvania Law School where she obtained her LLM with Distinction. As a Salzburg Cutler Fellow, she researched the human rights implications of tax havens in Washington DC.

Beatriz has received awards in recognition of her pro bono service and volunteering. She recently took a sabbatical to take up a Churchill Fellowship in the US, researching art’s role in justice reform.
