Dr Doug Wilson leads the Scientific and Evidence Services department in the Environment Agency, which covers the Agency’s work on scientific research, leading the business on monitoring, producing evaluations based on this information and work to improve and manage data. He is also the lead for Defra Network’s work on environmental monitoring.
Doug is the business lead for SAGE (Scientific Advisory Group in Emergencies) which is responsible for providing important information and scientific advice to the Government during incidents. Before joining the Environment Agency in 1999 he worked in the water industry for Southern Water and Thames Water, planning and managing water resources.
Doug has a PhD in river pollution incident modelling, with research interests in pollution dispersion, environmental water needs and the application of the precautionary principle in environmental management. He is a Visiting Professor at Nottingham Trent University.
