Dr Dudley Hewlett heads the Defence and Security Accelerator’s operations team at the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory. He was previously the Head of CBRN Science in the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, where he was responsible for the science and technology used for advising ministers, developing government policy and the delivering operational recovery capability following deliberate releases of hazardous materials.

His previous roles have included Head of CBRN Science at the Food and Environment Research Agency; Head of Science at the Government Decontamination Service; CBRN Science and Technology Programme manager at the Home Office; Scientific Advisor at the Cabinet Office; researcher in police science at the Home Office.

Dudley has a PhD in Organic Chemistry from the University of Southampton and is a Chartered Chemist, Chartered Scientist, Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry and member of the Register of Security Engineers and Specialists.
