Chief Scientific Adviser to the Food Standards Agency

Professor of Ecology, University of Southampton

Professor Guy Poppy is Chief Scientific Adviser to the Food Standards Agency (UK Govt) and a Professor of Ecology in the Centre for Biological Sciences at the University of Southampton. As Chief Scientific Adviser to the FSA, Guy is responsible for the integrity of the processes used to source scientific evidence and ensure expert scientific advice is available to the agency; representing the agency in the community of departmental Chief Scientific Advisers and the wider scientific community: and championing science within the agency through developing its scientists’ expertise.

Guy’s research looks to understand how insect/plant communities interact and thus determine how biotic and abiotic changes to the system influence the multi-trophic interactions.
