Joseph Kannarkat is the 2018-2019 Kanders Churchill Scholar and is spending the year studying for an MPhil in Public Policy. He is originally from the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area and completed his bachelor's degrees in neuroscience and economics at the University of Pittsburgh. He wants to use this year to develop a strong foundation in how policy is conceived, planned, and ultimately implemented. He has a particular interest in learning about England's single-payer health system works and how the National Health Service functions from a policy standpoint. His future goals lie in tackling United States healthcare challenges and plans to attend medical school, where he hopes to learn how to better implement health policy from a grassroots perspective.
