Maria Holgado is a Research Associate at the Institute of Manufacturing, University of Cambridge, where she is part of the Centre for Industrial Sustainability. She is lead researcher for the European Commission-funded project "Energy and Resource Management Systems for Improved Efficiency in the Process Industries" (MAESTRI). The project aims to develop concepts and tools that will encourage industry to adopt energy and resource efficiency improvement strategies.

Maria has worked on a variety of research projects focusing on sustainability. She previously worked with Innovate UK on the REDRESS project, which aimed to increase the volume of textile recovery through business model and supply change innovation. She also participated in the SustainValue project funded by the European Commission, which aimed to improve sustainability by developing new industry models, business models and performance standards.

Maria holds a PhD from Politecnico di Milano in Italy, and previously qualified as a Manufacturing Engineer with the University of Seville, Spain. She has previously been a Marie-Curie Research Fellow at the University Federico Santa Maria in Valparaíso, Chile, and a Visiting Scholar at the University of Cincinnati, USA.
