Senior Scientific Officer for Net Zero, Resources and Waste, Defra

Dr Nia Jones is a Senior Scientist within the Evidence and Analysis Team in Defra’s Resources and Waste Division. She specifically provides scientific support including evidence syntheses, project management, scoping, and design for topics within the remit of Resources and Waste including net zero, textiles and plastic pollution. Before moving to Defra, she recently completed her PhD in microplastic transport modelling through estuaries and undertook a UKRI policy internship in early 2021. She is interested in bridging the gap between science and policy and highlighting the need for sound evidence in light of global environmental challenges.
