William Maloney is a Professor of Politics and the Head of the School of Geography, Politics and Sociology at the University of Newcastle. His research interests cover social changes, including interest groups, civil society organizations, political participation and social capital. His resarch has been published in a variety of journals, and in 2012 he co-editted "New Participatory Dimensions in Civil Society: Professionalization and Individualized Collective Action" which was published by Routledge.

William's current research projects include "INTEREURO: Comparative research on interest group politics in Europe" which examines interest group mobilisation and the impact on policy making decisions, and a European Commission-funded project on youth unemployment that is examining the impact of labour market policies to create more jobs for young people.
