The Multilingualism: Empowering Individuals, Transforming Societies (MEITS) project held a successful second Policy Workshop in December 2018 in Belfast, bringing together policy makers and academics from England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

Following this workshop, Professor Wendy Ayres-Bennett, PrincipaI Investigator of MEITS, and Professor Janice Carruthers, AHRC Leadership Fellow in Modern Languages, published a new Policy Briefing on Modern Languages Educational Policy in the UK.

Based on a comparative analysis of policy and practice across the four UK jurisdictions, recommendations are made for primary and secondary languages education, as well as for improving transition between the two, which has been highlighted as particularly problematic for foreign language learning.
