The Mile End Institute is a major new policy centre at Queen Mary University of London. Drawing on its unique location within a Russell Group University situated in London’s East End, it brings together policymakers, academics and diverse local communities to address the major political challenges in the UK.

Its mission is to deepen and challenge public understanding of the crises facing our systems of politics and governance, and to promote a richer debate about public policy issues and the UK’s role within the wider world. The Institute calls upon Queen Mary’s rich academic expertise in the fields of contemporary history and politics to bring a longer view to bear on policy issues.

Queen Mary University of London is a Russell Group University that was ranked 9th in the UK among multi-faculty universities for the quality of research in the most recent national assessment of research, the Research Excellence Framework 2014.
