Dr Alan Cousens has developed a portfolio career, working as an Industrial Fellow with The Institute for Manufacturing, a Senior Research Fellow at Cranfield University, an Associate Lecturer with the Open University, a researcher with Cambridge Resolution Ltd, and consultancy projects in the third sector working with PrimeTimers.

Alan has held a number of senior management roles in a variety of high technology manufacturing companies in the UK, all operating internationally. His most recent industrial roles were as Managing Director with Graseby plc, Smiths Industries plc, and Oxford Instruments plc.

At Cranfield Alan teaches and researches in the fields of Operations and Innovation Management. In his work with PrimeTimers he has carried out projects in the third sector in marketing, business planning, and mentoring senior managers.

Alan is a graduate of Cambridge University and has a Doctorate in Metallurgy. Whilst developing his career he studied part-time at Cranfield University, gaining an MBA; he also holds a masters in Economics from Birkbeck College, London.
