Caroline Wilson took up her appointment as Her Majesty’s Ambassador to China in September 2020.

Previously, Caroline was Europe Director at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office from 2016-2019. Caroline qualified as a Barrister and gained a Masters in European Community Law (from the Universite Libre de Bruxelles) before joining the FCO in 1995. A Mandarin and Russian speaker, she has served in Beijing, Moscow, and was the British Consul General in Hong Kong. She has worked extensively on Europe, including in the Cabinet Office European Secretariat and UK Permanent Representation to the EU. Caroline also speaks a number of European languages and as the Whitehall Foreign Language champion has worked to promote languages within government. Caroline is an Honorary Fellow of Downing College Cambridge and Bencher of the Middle Temple. Caroline graduated from Cambridge with a Law Degree.
