Former Head of Policy on University Research and Knowledge Exchange, BEIS

Carolyn Reeve has recently left BEIS, where she was Head of Policy on University Research and Knowledge Exchange in the Science, Research & Innovation Directorate, having started her career in the Department for Trade and Industry (DTI). Carolyn will be looking for future opportunities to support policy development and implementation relating to university research and university-business engagement.
Carolyn was responsible for policy on university research and funding provided in England, working with Research England/UK Research & Innovation; the development of the Research Excellence Framework (REF), which sustains university research quality with "impact"; university knowledge exchange activities, including research commercialisation and university-business collaboration, which help deliver benefits to society and the economy, and the development and implementation of the new Knowledge Exchange Framework (which will assess and benchmark performance in KE). She was also policy lead on financial sustainability of university research.
In previous roles in the Office for Science & Innovation, she was responsible for sponsoring various Research Councils (including Engineering & Physical Sciences Research Council, Natural Environment Research Council, Economic & Social Research Council and Arts & Humanities Research Council) and for policy on related research priorities including energy, environment, climate change research.
She was awarded the National Centre for University & Business (NCUB) Fellowship in 2018 for contribution to university-business engagement.
