Michael Harvey is Counsellor for Financial and Professional Services, joining the British Embassy Beijing in September 2023. He is responsible for all the Embassy’s financial and professional services functions, including across capital markets, banking, asset management, insurance, and green finance.
Before moving to China Michael worked at HM Treasury for over a decade, most recently heading the team leading on the UK’s financial services engagement with mainland China, Hong Kong, and ASEAN markets. Previous roles at HM Treasury included leading on EU financial services strategy, City competitiveness, and financial groups policy.
Prior to HM Treasury, Michael worked as a consultant for Chatham House (Royal Institute of International Affairs), as well as at New York University’s Centre on International Cooperation. He holds a BA (Hons) in Economics, Politics, and International Studies and an MPhil in International Relations.
