Research Strategy Manager (Assessment, Impact and Business Relations), Research Strategy Office, University of Cambridge

Dr Ralph Ecclestone is the Research Strategy Manager for Assessment, Impact and Business Relations, in the Research Strategy Office at the University of Cambridge. He is also an Independent Member of the Steering Board of the Government's Intellectual Property Office.

Dr Ecclestone began his career in technology consultancy. At Scientific Generics (now ‘Sagentia’) he became a director and was responsible for UK marketing. It was at Generics that he developed his interest in intellectual property, helping set up the processes by which the company created its own IP and also being responsible for licensing and the spin-out of new businesses.

He has worked in venture capital, joining Forward Group plc, a private investment firm with close links to a number of UK universities, where he became Managing Director.

He left Forward to create his own business in commercialisation which he did successfully for over ten years. He has worked with numerous universities and IP-based businesses. He also has considerable experience as a non-executive director.
