Senior Climate and Energy Science Advisor, Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy

Steve is currently Senior Climate and Energy Science Advisor at the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, working in the Climate Science team. He joined DECC working on the production of the UK’s greenhouse gas inventory as well as managing the contract with the Met Office and University of Bristol to verify the inventory through atmospheric observations. He was also involved in the set up and management of environmental monitoring programmes at prospective shale gas development sites in Lancashire and Yorkshire with the British Geological Survey.

Since joining the Climate Science team, his work has focused primarily on mitigation pathways consistent with the Paris Agreement and he provides scientific support to domestic and international policy colleagues in implementation of the Paris Agreement. His academic background is in palaeoclimatology.
