Artificial Intelligence: Disrupting Sustainability

The Sustainable Development Forum are bringing together experts from academia and industry for a conference on the disruptive potential of AI

Venue: Judge Business School, University of Cambridge


The Sustainable Development Forum was initiated in 2015 in Belgrade, Serbia. It aims to discuss and promote 17 Sustainable Development Goals and this conference has been organised by graduate students at the Judge Business School.

Session 1: Prospect of artificial intelligence

Lord Martin Rees, Astronomer Royal and former-President of the Royal Society will outline the global context in which AI will be developed and applied in a speech entitled "Looking toward 2050".

This will be followed by a panel discussion on "Smart Economy - Transformation of Job Markets", which will explore the costs and benefits of AI in relation to the job market. Panellists include:

  • Harry Armstrong, Senior Researcher, Technology Futures, Nesta
  • Andrew Cranwell, Director, Digital Business Banking, Barclays UK
  • Eleonora Ferrero, Director of European Operations, Mind the Bridge Foundation
  • Jochen Runde, Professor of Economics and Organisation, Cambridge Judge Business School

Session 2: Practical implications and reflections on AI

Alex Housley, CEO and Founder of Seldon.io will discuss the ethics of AI development, the value of open-source technology and the sustainability of in a speech entitled "Ethical AI development?"

This will be followed by a panel discussion entitled "Disruption of Industries", which will explore how AI could penetrate and transform healthcare, automobiles, toys, music, food production, heavy manufacturing, and more. Panellists include:

  • Mehdi Doghri, Head of Value Added Products, Digital Business Banking, Barclays UK
  • Shaona Ghosh, Post-doctoral researcher, Intelligent Interactive Systems Group, Cambridge Engineering Design Centre
  • Stella Pachidi, University Lecturer in Information Systems, Cambridge Judge Business School
  • Rodolfo Rosini, CEO and Co-founder at Weave.ai

Finally, Sir Paul Judge, the eponymous benefactor of Judge Business School and Alderman of the City of London, will reflect on the potential impact of AI on the education system in a speech entitled "Future of education in both developed and emerging countries".
