Clive Oppenheimer - Monitoring volcanic gas emissions: From innovation to operational application

Speaker: Dr Clive Oppenheimer, Reader in Volcanology and Remote Sensing, Department of Geography, University of Cambridge

This talk will introduce some of the research of the Cambridge Volcanology Group over the past decade, focusing on the development and application of new techniques for measuring volcanic plumes. Dr Clive Oppenheimer will then explore the impacts that the work has had, especially on the volcano observatory community responsible for volcanic hazard assessment and touch on the complexities and broader policy implications of managing volcanic risk.

These seminars aim to bring together a diverse range of individuals from the humanities as well as social and natural sciences to discuss the public policy implications of their work and research.

They will take place on Fridays between 1-2pm, during the Lent term. Venue to be confirmed.

Each talk will last 25-30 minutes and will be followed by open discussion.
