Digital connectivity is increasingly important for economic activities and tackling the challenges of urbanisation. But what role should national and urban policy occupy in fostering greater connectivity?

Foresight’s Future of Cities project, recently launched by the Government’s Chief Scientific Officer Sir Mark Walport, is one stimulus among many which highlights the importance of cities for the UK’s future development. Achieving world-class, inclusive digital connectivity is essential for the UK’s long-term economic development.

This lecture discusses how policy should enable the delivering of fixed and wireless technologies and infrastructure, as well as how policy should support their usage by individuals, firms and public services.
