The Centre for Science and Policy in collaboration with the PHG Foundation will co-host a series of expert workshops to develop an independent response to the House of Lords Science and Technology Committee Report published in June 2009.

Background

Following an 18-month long enquiry into recent advances in genomics (and related fields) the House of Lords Science and Technology Committee published its excellent report on Genomic Medicine in July 2009.

It calls for a new Government White Paper to update the 2003 Genetics White Paper. The PHG Foundation believes that it would be advantageous to have an independent response to the report in addition to the Government response to help the Office for the Strategic Co-ordination of Health Research (OSCHR) in developing their strategic vision for genomic medicine in the UK.

To this end the PHG Foundation in collaboration with the University of Cambridge Centre for Science and Policy (CSaP) will co-host a series of expert workshops to develop an independent response to the Report by early 2010. The stakeholder workshops which will take place from November 2009 to February 2010 will broadly cover the perspectives of different groups (clinicians; scientists and industry representatives; policy-makers; and experts on ethical legal and social implications of genomics). These will then be drawn together in a final strategic workshop in March 2010.

The workshops will be held under the Chatham House Rule and attendance is by invitation only.

Venue & Accommodation

These workshops will be held at the University of Cambridge. There are several hotels located centrally for example: The Double Tree by Hilton; the Crowne Plaza and the Hotel du Vin. For more information on where to stay in Cambridge please click here.
