"The Puzzle of Child Well-being: Many Measures but No Construct"
13:00-14:30 Friday 31 May
Venue: Keynes Hall, King’s College Cambridge
Child well-being is currently measured by governments, NGOs, academics and local authorities. But curiously there are no explicit theories of what is purportedly being measured. This is in contrast with adult well-being of which there are many well-developed theories. In this talk Dr Alexandrova attempts to explain why and to correct the situation. The work presented is in collaboration with Professor Ramesh Raghavan, a public health scientist at the Washington University in St Louis.
Dr Anna Alexandrova is a University Lecturer in Philosophy of Science at the Department of History and Philosophy of Science in Cambridge. She works broadly in philosophy of social sciences, including economics and psychology, and currently on well-being. Anna studied and taught at universities in the US prior to taking up her post in Cambridge.
