Dr Jat Singh is a Senior Research Fellow and Affiliated Lecturer at the Department of Computer Science & Technology (Computer Laboratory). He leads the Compliant and Accountable Systems research group, which considers the intersections of computer science and law - exploring means for better aligning technology with legal concerns, and vice-versa. He also co-chairs the Cambridge Trust & Technology Initiative, which drives research exploring the dynamics of trust and distrust in relation to internet technologies, society and power.

Jat is a Fellow of the Alan Turing Institute, and is active in the tech-policy space, having served on advisory councils for the Financial Conduct Authority and BEIS, where he was seconded to the Secretariat of the E-infrastructure Leadership Council (BEIS). The Council is responsible for developing the national e-infrastructure strategy, advising on topics including high-performance computing, big data/analytics, network infrastructure as well as related issues such as security, computational training and skills, and industrial engagement.
