Dr Neal Lathia is a Senior Data Scientist at Skyscanner in London.

Previously, he was an entrepreneur at Accelerate Cambridge at the Judge Business School, University of Cambridge and held a Senior Research Associate position in the University's Computer Laboratory, working in the Networks and Operating Systems Group on the EPSRC UBhave (Ubiquitous and Social Computing for Positive Behaviour Change) Project; his research was in the intersection of data mining, mobile systems, ubiquitous/pervasive systems, and personalisation/ recommender systems, applied to a variety of contexts where we measure human behaviour by their digital footprints. Before this he was an honorary Research Associate in the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences at the University of Maryland; a Research Associate in the Department of Computer Science at University College London (where he also did his PhD); and a visiting researcher at Telefonica Research.

Neal's work focuses on data-driven applications. This journey has spanned digital health monitoring, smartphone sensors, urban computing, online recommender systems, and the analysis of 'big' data sets of transport records, financial transactions, and online ratings. He obtained a PhD in Computer Science in 2010 from University College London: his doctoral work introduced methods for evaluating collaborative filtering algorithms over time.
