Qianyu’s research centres on a critical analysis of the political economy of housing policy, with particular attention to cities in China. With research interests including housing affordability, neighborhood and poverty, migrant housing, housing finance and urban economics, her current research attempts to explore how housing resources can be distributed to those who are marginal in the housing and property market.

Qianyu previously studied at the London School of Economics and Political Science, earning an MSc in Social Policy and Development from the Department of Social Policy. She also holds a Master’s degree in English Language and Literature. Qianyu is the 2018 award winner of Loch Exhibition Prize for her outstanding academic achievement. She is also proud for her year's work experience in the Development Research Centre of Shanghai Municipal People‘s Government, with her research project funded by the Shanghai Development Research Scholarship.
