The 2023 Reynolds lecture: 'Wisdom sits in places: the extraordinary power of the sense of place'

Over the last twenty years, Madeleine Bunting has written three non fiction books in which a sense of place is central including an acre of the North Yorkshire moors, a journey through the Hebrides and most recently the English seaside resort. In this talk, she will reflect on the power of place and the many ways in which we use it to inspire identity, belonging and deep attachment. Reflecting on the history of English and Scottish place-making, she will consider the complex politics of place, reinvention, conservation and neglect.
Biography
Madeleine Bunting is a prize winning author and former Guardian columnist. She has written six books of non fiction, most recently The Seaside, England's Love Affair and two novels. She is a regular BBC broadcaster and Visiting Professor at the LSE's Institute of International Inequalities.
