Adrian also works for the National Institute for Health and Care Research Clinical Research Network as the regional specialty lead for Trauma and Emergencies to help patients take part in clinical research trials.

His research focuses on the use of health data to prevent intentional injury and on reducing the harm of Emergency Department crowding.

Adrian qualified as a Doctor in 1994 from Southampton University. He trained in the East of England as a Registrar in Emergency Medicine before taking up a Consultant post at Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge in 2005 and has been lead educator and lead clinician in that department. During that time, he acquired a Masters in Epidemiology and a Doctorate from Cambridge University. He previously chaired the Quality Committee at the Royal College of Emergency Medicine and has been Vice President (Policy) since 2019. He was made President of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine in October 2022.
