Andrew Lever is Professor of Infectious Diseases at the Department of Medicine, University of Cambridge, and Honorary Consultant Physician at Addenbrooke's Hospital. His research focuses on retroviruses and rotaviruses, primarily HIV-1 and HIV-2, including the use of viruses as gene therapy. His research group is currently working with the Department of Surgery to investigate the use of retroviruses to reduce the risk of transplant rejection.

Andrew is Co-Editor in Chief of Retrovirology and a Fellow of the Learned Society of Wales. He is a Professorial Fellow at Peterhouse, where he supervises second-year medical students in pathology.
