Darren Jones has been the Labour Member of Parliament for Bristol North West since 2017 and was appointed as Chief Secretary to the Treasury in 2024. He previously chaired the Buisness and Trade Select Committee from 2020 to 2023.

Prior to his election, Darren was a legal counsel at BT plc having trained as a telecommunications solicitor. Darren studied Human Biosciences at Plymouth University before reading law at the University of the West of England and the University of Law, Bristol.

Darren is one of the elected politicians taking up a Policy Fellowship in 2021. He plans to use his Fellowship to consider the economic opportunities and challenges facing the UK; how to reform government in the context of technological change and devolution; and the UK’s role in the world, including in respect of defence, national security and climate diplomacy.
