Ed Turner is Curator of Insects at the University Museum of Zoology, Cambridge and heads the Insect Ecology Group in the Department of Zoology. His research investigates ways that ecosystems can be managed to benefit biodiversity and associated ecosystem functions, with a focus on large-scale experimental approaches. In SE Asia, Ed collaborates with the oil palm industry to develop more sustainable cultivation practices. In the UK, Ed works with the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Northamptonshire Wildlife Trust to investigate ways that fragmented reserves can be managed to support butterfly species in the face of climate change. Ed’s group also works with schools to investigate more about the biodiversity found in school environments, and uses the historical insect collection housed in the Museum of Zoology, to study long-term ecological change.
