Founder and CTO at Opto Biosystems

Dr. Elise Jenkins is an electrical engineer turned neuro-oncology researcher to now co-founder and CTO of medical technology start-up, Opto Biosystems. Opto are developing tiny, wireless neural implants to track and treat the world’s most difficult diseases. During her engineering PhD in the bioelectronics laboratory, Elise was interested in how brain cancers could be understood and treated using electrical signals.

Between her undergraduate studies in Australia and her PhD at the University of Cambridge, Elise worked at Siemens Smart Infrastructure leading the product support, training and management in the UK. Elise is interested in the cross section of interdisciplinary fields like engineering, neuroscience and cancer, as well as engaging with regulators, policy makers and government to support the translation of innovative neurotechnology to clinic. Elise was awarded the 2023 CJBS Woman Entrepreneur of the Year and represented in the 2024 Forbes 30 Under 30 List.
